PEARSALL SOFTBALL
Pearsall notches third win in four-game span, top Floresville to improve to 2-1 in district play.
Pearsall rallied from a 1-0 deficit with three straight one-run innings to hold on and defeat Floresville last week in the only softball action over the Spring Break holiday.
The Lady Mavs had split their previous district outing over Devine and Somerset and move to 2-0 in 27-4A action. The team currently sits third in the standings behind 4-0 Devine and 3-0 Pleasanton.
“It sure was a big district win for us, we hadn’t beaten Floresville in a couple years,” PHS Head Coach Juan Soliz said of the win. “The girls started out slow at the beginning but got their bats hot at the right times.
“Defensively, we still committed little errors but we are sharpening them out. Caitlyn started the game out for us and Kristen Morales finished it. Both pitchers did a great job on the mound.”
In notching the win over the Jaguars, Pearsall saw themselves in a 1-0 hole after the first but individual runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings saw the Lady Mavs claim a 3-1 lead going into the seventh.

Floresville added a run in their final at-bat but Pearsall shut down the threat to earn a 3-2 win.
“The Devine loss really lit a fire for the team and they have worked even harder to get better and be ready to play good squads like Devine,” Soliz said.
Jesslyn Gutierrez paced the offense as she went two for four at the plate with two RBI. Makayla Hernandez and Carly Elizondo both went one for two with a run each. Both also earned walks.
Rodriguez allowed five hits in two innings of work and one earned run. Morales saw relief action and allowed a run, walked four and struck out nine in five innings.
Pearsall managed only four hits and commited two errors but made the most of those hits with three runs scored. Floresville banged out seven hits but could not bring in runs and also commited a pair of errors.
Pearsall was at fourth place Uvalde on Tuesday evening, March 18 in another crucial league outing and will host 0-3 Carrizo Springs on Friday, March 21.
