APRIL IS CHILD ABUSE AWARENESS & PREVENTION MONTH

COUNTY OFFICIALS in Frio and La Salle (Photos above and below) joined representatives of the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of South Texas, on Friday, April 4, for further proclamations for Child Abuse Awareness & Prevention Month as well as Sexual Assault Prevention Month, and were joined by local leaders, child advocates, law enforcement and shelter organizers in calling for increased education and intervention in cases of domestic and sexual violence, child abuse and neglect. County Judges Rochelle Camacho and Leodoro Martinez III were joined by Associate District Judge Melissa DeGerolami in making the proclamations and in citing the number of cases handled by CASA of South Texas in which volunteers address children’s best interests in court hearings for foster and adoptive care. The La Salle event included a delegation of Cotulla High School media and technology students who interviewed CASA representatives and government leaders.
