A WORD FROM THE MAYOR
The City of Pearsall will hold a special election on Saturday, May 3, 2025 and on the ballot for the city will be two items in addition to the election of city council members.
Of the two items, one is to choose if the city of Pearsall may allow Bingo. There are state regulations governing Bingo that must be followed, in addition to being approved or allowed by a city or municipality. To the best of our knowledge, there has never been an election to consider legalizing Bingo, therefore, this election is to provide the citizens an opportunity to vote on this issue. For more info, you can go to the city website and click on the special election information page and scan the QR code on the page.
Additionally, the city will present to the voters the option to sell the municipal gas system. The management of our gas system has historically been running at an increasingly higher expense level than revenues taken in. The number of customers that use gas inside the city continues to drop. Today, roughly 25 percent of the total customers in Pearsall use gas and based on historical trends, we expect this to continue to decrease as it has been.
The cost associated with maintaining the system continues to increase due in part to state and federal regulations, as well as the inflationary measures we have seen across the full spectrum. Many other towns around our community have sold their systems for similar reasons. The gas service will continue to be provided, but the operation of the lines and system would be owned, managed and controlled by a third party, similar to the solid waste pickup for the city of Pearsall. Years ago, the city outsourced trash pick-up as it provided a more efficient means of collection for the city and, thereby, its citizens. Trash collection is currently managed by Republic Services, contractually, through the city.
The city has provided a QR code on its website with complete information about the issues around the gas system. You can find it under the special election information tab on our webpage, please go to www.cityofpearsall.org.
Please, check out this information on our website. Pearsall city staff and officials are to remain neutral in our discussions regarding these issues, but ask you to please inform yourselves and vote in the May 3rd Special Election.
God Bless the City of Pearsall, the County of Frio, the State of Texas, the United States of America and You.
Ben T. Briscoe
Mayor of Pearsall
