800m team just misses out on state berth.
Cotulla’s 800m relay team narrowly missed out on qualifying for the state track meet as the group finished fourth in the event at the Class 3A, Region IV meet in Seguin last week.
The team of Oscar Charo, Brayden Rodriguez, Reese Garcia and Jose Gonzalez was sixth in prelims with a time of 1:32.02 but qualified for a spot in the finals. There, the team ran a much better race and clocked in at 1:30.89 to take fourth place overall, one spot shy of qualifying for state.

Sophomore Brayden Rodriguez was 11th in prelims in the 100m dash but did not qualifying for the finals with his time of 11.07. He was seventh in prelims in the 200m dash with a time of 23.14 and then clocked in with the exact same time and was fifth in the finals.
Frank Torres was tenth in the finals of the 800m run with a time of 2:09.23 while Jose Gonzalez was seventh in the long jump with a distance of 20′ 5-3/4″.
Ryan Sanchez was eighth in the prelims of the 300m hurdles with a time of 42.92. In the finals, he improved to seventh overall at 43.42.
The Cowgirls’ Brooklyn Kuenstler competed in the pole vault, finishing tenth overall after clearing a height of 8′.
