Doing their part


Pearsall HEB partnered with local schools, encouraging them to recycle from March 17 to April 4 as part of the store’s yearly statewide School Plastic Bag Recycling Challenge. Each participating school received a $150 gift card for their participation for an Earth Day Celebration and a chance to win more within the HEB Border Region. Ted Flores Elementary and Pearsall Intermediate collected a total of 33,195 plastic bags in the challenge. Ted Flores Elementary School collected 16,643 plastic bags in total with the top classroom to collect the most was Kathleen Waldrum’s Pre-Kinder class with 7,162 plastic bags. Pearsall Intermediate collected 16,552 plastic bags in total. Damien Esqueda’s fifth grade class was the top collecting classroom with 4,629 plastic bags.
