LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Dear Editor,
The May 2025 elections have concluded, leaving only one school board runoff. Frio County’s elected officials have worked to serve the community, though some have been more successful than others. Pearsall ISD continues its efforts to improve but remains a “C”-rated district by TEA, with only 17% of students proficient in math. Despite millions in taxpayer spending over the last ten years, the district’s rating has not improved.
Our city is evolving, with $10 million invested in Oak Street sidewalks and sewer lines, yet the long-term financial return is uncertain. Recouping costs through taxes could take 40+ years, or even longer due to tax breaks granted to businesses. More pressing is our ability to maintain existing infrastructure.
Despite these challenges, local government officials have stepped up with good intentions. However, complaints from a small group over the last two years have prompted aggressive legal action by state officials. This may discourage future candidates from running for local office. Please vote and show support for your community.
Reynaldo M. Trevino
*Editor’s Note: The final outcome of the Pearsall ISD trustee election is being determined by a recount this week.
