PEARSALL CROSS COUNTRY

Angelyna Montes finished sixth overall while the Mavericks were eighth as a team at the Bandera Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, September 6.
“The Bandera Cross Country Invitational consisted of ten teams, with a mix of out of district teams and many teams from the district and region,” PHS Head Coach Jose Olvera said of the event. “This meet provided great competition with a few changes in terrain and after the rain, it exposed our runners to the humid conditions similar to what the regional meet will feel like in Corpus Christi.”
Six Pearsall runners earned top 25 placings and medaled at the event.
“Angelyna was determined to be in the top ten and ran with effort and great strategy and placed sixth out of 100 runners with a time of 12:51,” Coach Olvera said. “Our top boys’ runner, Alex Peralta struggled with a slight pre-race injury, but went out there and ran his best and placed 23rd with a time of 18:33.”
Varsity results are as follows: Angelyna Montes, sixth, 12:51; boys’, Alexander Peralta, 23rd, 18:33, Eduardo Torres, 37th, 19:29, Serapio Vasquez, 40th, 19:34, Joseph Leija, 69th, 20:51 and Jose Vallejo, 77th, 21:11.
Isabella Moreno was 48th in the junior varsity girls’ division.
Pearsall’s JV boys were third overall and had four runners place in the top 25.
JV boys’ results are as follows: Josiah Caballero, 11th, 20:24, Mizael Estrada, 17th, 21:40, Jimmy Lopez, 18th, 21:53, Isaiah Gauna, 24th, 22:32, Aidan Morales, 41st, 24:27.
Pearsall will be in action at one of the larger meets of the year this Saturday, the Islander Splash on the campus of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
