Pearsall will play host to the inaugural Watt’s Smoke’n BBQ Cook-off October 17 and 18 at the John B. Strait Civic Center with proceeds benefitting the Chamber of Pearsall and the Pearsall ISD Career and Technical Education Program.
The event also marks the official celebration of the city’s recent designation as the Lineman Capital of Texas by the Texas Senate.
“This exciting new event will bring our community together to honor the essential work of linemen, celebrate our proud Texas barbecue tradition, and raise funds for causes close to home,” event coordinator Bianca Ramirez said. “Sanctioned by the Champions Barbeque Alliance as an official state championship event, the cook-off will attract top tier pitmasters from across Texas and beyond.
“These skilled competitors will face off for the chance to earn an invitation to the Jack Daniel’s Championship Invitational Barbecue Competition, one of the most prestigious contests in the world.”
Ramirez said that proceeds from the inaugural event will benefit the Chamber of Pearsall and the Pearsall ISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program.
“This program helps strengthen our local workforce and supports future leaders in skilled trades,” Ramirez added. “Local donors have the unique opportunity to be part of Pearsall history by supporting our very first sanctioned BBQ championship, gain exposure to a diverse audience of community members, food enthusiasts, and regional visitors and show their commitment to education, workforce development, and the hardworking
linemen who keep Texas powered.”
