Mavericks finish fourth overall as a team in pre-cursor to 27-4A event.

In preparation for district competition this week, Pearsall’s cross country Mavs and Lady Mavs attended the Uvalde Pre-District Cross Country Invitational on Wednesday, October 1.
Angelyna Montes paced the team as she finished first overall in her division while the boys were fourth overall.
“This was a good opportunity for our runners to get a practice run on the district course,” PHS Cross Country Head Coach Jose Olvera said. “Varsity runner Eddie Torres led the boys and placed sixth with Alex Peralta coming in ninth.
“Angelyna continues to run with effort and placed first in the girls’ varsity division while Malia Esparza placed 11th. Overall, our runners came home with eight medals.
The Mavericks finished fourth overall as a team behind Torres’ and Peralta’s sixth and ninth place individual finishes.
Serapio Vasquez was also 14th for Pearsall, Josiah Caballero was 29th and Alex Frazier finished 27th.
Montes paced the Lady Mavs with her overall victory in the varsity girls’ division. Esparza in 11th was Pearsall’s only other varsity girls’ competitor.
In the sub-varsity division, Jimmy Lopez was sixth for the JV Mavs while Isaiah Gauna was third.
Isabella Moreno finished 15th for the JV Lady Mavs.
“Again, thanks to the parents who traveled and supported our teams,” Olvera added.
Pearsall competed in the District 27-4A Cross Country Meet in Uvalde on Wednesday, October 8.
Results from the event were unavailable at press time and will be available in next week’s edition of the newspaper.
