PEARSALL FOOTBALL
Pearsall saw 15 members of its football team named to the All-District team for 14-4A, Division II, which was announced after all four playoff qualifying teams were eliminated from the postseason.
Senior wide receiver Abel Elizondo was named the league’s Utility Player of the Year.
Six players were named the All-District’s First-Team at seven different positions. Senior Jared Leal earned first-team honors at offensive tackle and defensive end. Other first-team selections include sophomore wide receiver Logan Rodriguez, sophomore guard Alan Celis, senior defensive tackle Jayden Villarreal, junior cornerback Samuel Martinez and senior linebacker Martin Rosales.
Second-team selections include junior running back JM Gutierrez, senior fullback and linebacker Jaiden Ortiz, senior center Aiden Zarzosa, sophomore defensive tackle Alan Celis, senior defensive end Giovanni Costilla and junior safety Xzayven Gandara.
Sophomore Chris Rodriguez, freshman Tony Ramirez and senior Alvaro Valdez all earned honorable mention.
The Mavericks closed out their season with a 2-9 mark overall and 1-3 record in 14-4A, Division II. The team was fourth overall and earned its fourth straight playoff berth, losing to Salado at bi-district.
