Team finishes 3-2 at event as Southside forfeits final contest.
A quick 4-0 start to its season was quickly snapped with a two-game skid as Pearsall finished seventh overall in action at the annual Maverick Invitational Basketball Tournament over the weekend.
The Mavericks went 2-0 in pre-district action prior to the tournament, notching wins over Laredo Harmony and Hondo and followed that up with a pair of wins over Rocksprings and San Antonio Southside at the event on Thursday.
Pearsall topped the Angoras 87-29 and then earned a hard-fought 51-46 decision over the Cardinals to earn a first round bracket date with Laredo Cigarroa.
The Mavs were in control throughout much of the first half against the Toros on Friday but a run to open the third saw Laredo take control and eventually earn a 63-58 victory.

The loss dropped Pearsall into the consolation bracket where they faced Beeville-Jones. The Trojans, reeling from a 68-16 loss to San Antonio Cole in their bracket opener, bounced back from the embarrassing defeat to notch their best win of the tournament, a 71-61 decision over the Mavs.
Pearsall was set to face Southside in a rematch of their Thursday outing but the Cardinals forfeited the outing, citing injuries and did not make the trip on Saturday for the seventh place contest.
In a quick turnaround due to the holiday schedule, Pearsall was in action Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning with non-district contests against Crystal City and Poteet.
On Monday, the Mavs dropped a 67-57 decision to the Javelinas but bounced back in action Tuesday with a dominant 79-20 decision over the Aggies to snap their three-game skid.
Pearsall returns to action on Tuesday, December 2 at Eagle Pass.
