‘NIGHT OF LIGHTS’ hosted by the city of Perarsall on Friday, December 5, includes a downtown lighted parade along Oak Street at 6 p.m., folowed by the annual Christmas celebration beside the City Hall Annex, featuring the lighting of the city’s Christmas tree, a visit from Santa Claus, refreshments, vendors, a Tamalada, a gingerbread house decorating contest, and entertainment. CHRISTMAS IN THE PARK hosted by the Cotulla Main Street Program, Friday, December 5, at Veterans Park downtown, beginning with a lighted parade with a Disney theme at 6:30 p.m. and the community tree lighting at 7 p.m., a visit from Santa Claus, free refreshments, s’mores, tamales and more. TOY GIVEAWAY hosted by the city of Pearsall will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 6, at the John Byron Strait Civic Center, 433 CR 1056, for all local children from newborn through 12th grade. Children must be present to receive a gift. For information, call Krystal Garcia, (830) 334-4160.
DECORATING CONTEST hosted by the Chamber of Pearsall invites all area residents and businesses to decorate their buildings in the Christmas spirit. Entries will be judged at 6 p.m. Wednesday, December 10. Cash prizes are awarded. Businesses and homes are judged separately. Entry forms are available at the Chamber, 317 South Oak Street.
TOY DRIVE hosted by the La Salle County Sheriff’s Office will include collection boxes at retail stores, local businesses and government offices, where public donations of new unwrapped gifts for children of all ages can be dropped off. Gift distribution will take place at family events at Encinal Veterans Park from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 17; and at Plaza Florita in Cotulla from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, featuring holiday music and free refreshments. BLUE SANTA, hosted by the Pearsall Police Department, will present gifts to local children from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, December 19, at the police headquarters, 911 Veterans Drive, while supplies last. Gifts are for children from newborn to age 12. Children must be present to receive a gift.
FREE ADVENT CALENDARS are available at the Pearsall Public Library again this year for all area families. They are provided by St. Peter Lutheran Church. The calendars count down the days to Christmas Eve, beginning with December 1.
