Pearsall to compete in Hondo tournament this weekend.
Following a successful stint at the Maverick Invitational tournament, Pearsall’s Lady Mavs split non-district outings last week with Southwest Legacy and Cotulla prior to the Thanksgiving holiday.
Pearsall went 3-1 in pool play at the tournament the week prior, topping Dilley, Utopia and Comfort before falling to a solid Hondo team.
In bracket play on Saturday, the team lost a last-second decision to San Antonio Lutheran.
Pearsall led by two in that contest with time running out when a Lutheran played hit a three-point shot at the buzzer to claim the walk-off victory.
“As for the tournament, we had a great weekend of basketball,” PHS Head Coach Phillip Ramirez said. “In our pool play we went 3-1 winning against, Dilley, Utopia, Comfort and lost to a pretty good Hondo team.
“I’m super proud of them for never giving up. We are learning how to play basketball and be a team.”
Kailey Elizondo and Jeralynn Gutierrez both earned all-tournament honors for their play.
In non-district action last week, the team dropped a 36-19 decision to Southwest Legacy on Monday but followed that up with a 35-31 win over Cotulla.
“We were down almost the whole game but the girls fought all game and it payed off,” Ramirez said. “We are starting to play as a team better and it’s showing.”
Pearsall was at Bandera on Tuesday, December 2 and will be in action at the Hondo tournament this weekend.
“We need to have a great December to get us ready for district,” the coach said.
