A routine traffic stop Saturday evening escalated into a narcotics and weapons seizure, leading to the arrest of a 39-year-old Pearsall man on felony charges.
According to a report filed at the Pearsall Police Department, officers effected a traffic stop on the driver, later identified as 39-year-old Eduardo Gallardo Jr., after he committed a traffic violation on Saturday, November 29, near the intersection of South Willow and West Comal streets.
The traffic stop took a turn when officers observed a passenger throw a large object out of the window of the vehicle into a nearby grassy area moments before Gallardo brought the vehicle to a stop.
Upon inspection of the area, police discovered what they are describing as a substantial quantity of cocaine packaged in a bag that also contained several smaller bags consistent with narcotics distribution.
A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded a handgun which was discovered under Gallardo’s driver’s seat.
Gallardo was arrested and transported to the Frio County Jail without further incident and faces felony charges for manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence with intent to impair, and unlawfully carrying a firearm.
