LADY MAVS BASKETBALL
Pearsall improved to 9-8 for the season last week, earning a pair of non-district victories by toppling neighboring Dilley and Three Rivers in hoops action.
The Lady Mavs rolled to a 46-20 win over the Lady Wolves last Tuesday, December 9. The team led 9-4 after the first and 20-10 at halftime. Pearsall then outscored Dilley 13-5 in each of the final two periods of play to secure the 26-point victory.
Pearsall then pulled out a tough 28-24 decision over Three Rivers on Friday behind a strong defensive effort.
“We played Dilley in Dilley and played okay,” PHS Head Coach Phillip Ramirez said. “We came out slow but then we picked up and won the game 46-20. Our defense is playing okay and held them to one shot.
“Friday we hosted Three Rivers and we won the game. We came out slow but we got the job done,” he said. “We have made a lot of progress and as I told the girls, we can not be satisfied with winning some games.”

Ramirez said a strong practice mentality is what has differentiated this year’s team from past squads.
“I’m trying to instill in them that we always want to practice, always want to do good as a team, and that will lead to more victories,” he said. “These girls have come a long way from the years prior and I am proud of their accomplishments so far.
“I have high expectations of the team and will continue to coach the team the best I can.”
The Lady Mavs played host to San Antonio Stacey on Tuesday evening and will open District 27-4A play this Friday at home against Uvalde at 2 p.m. in their final contest prior to the Christmas break.
Pearsall will be at Carrizo Springs on December 30 and host Pleasanton on Friday, January 2.
