COTULLA BASKETBALL
Cotulla slips to fifth in league rankings.
A bad week saw Cotulla slip to fifth in the district basketball standings as the Cowboys dropped decisions to Lytle and Jourdanton last week.
Cotulla’s only losses were to the district’s frontrunners, Crystal City, Lytle and Hondo as the team had topped Jourdanton in their first round encounter. The Indians, however, flipped the script in their second meeting, winning a narrow 61-58 decision over the Cowboys last Friday, January 30 in Jourdanton.
Prior to that outing, Cotulla was upended at home against second place Lytle, losing an 80-38 decision.
The Cowboys now sit 4-5 in the standings, a game behind Jourdanton in fifth place. The Indians currently hold the fourth and final playoff spot with five games remaining.
The Javelinas are in complete control of first place at 9-0 while the Pirates are 7-2. Hondo, at 6-3, is third in the standings.
Cotulla was at Hondo Tuesday evening and will be in Dilley on Friday, February 6 to take on their IH-35 rival in their final meeting of the season.
