A Cotulla resident was taken into custody late Sunday, February 8, on a drug possession charge after a sheriff’s deputy conducting a routine traffic stop discovered cocaine in the man’s vehicle.
Identified as Juan Carlos Rodriguez Jr., 26, the suspect in the case had been driving a 2020 Chevrolet Blazer sport utility vehicle when he was stopped by Deputy Jeremy Franklin on Mars Drive in the Las Palmas business park near the IH-35 access road shortly before 11:30 p.m. Sunday.
Deputy Franklin reported that his suspicions were alerted by the man’s behavior during a roadside interview. Franklin asked for and was given consent to examine the vehicle and opened the center console between the front seats, where he found a bag containing more than a gram of cocaine.
Rodriguez was cuffed and taken to the La Salle County Jail on a third-degree felony charge of possession of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1 and remained behind bars Monday, awaiting magistration.
