A routine outing ended in a crash into a building and a hospital transport after a vehicle’s brakes reportedly failed in a parking lot in Pearsall last week.
According to city police, a 76-year-old woman was driving a black Ford Expedition sport utility vehicle when the accident occurred on Friday, February 20. The driver was accompanied by two female passengers, ages 53 and 29, and 2 year-old toddler.

The driver told investigating officers she was attempting to back out of the parking space at a retail store on Oak Street when the SUV’s brakes failed to function. The vehicle continued moving in reverse and struck a barbershop.
Emergency medical responders arrived on scene to treat the vehicle’s occupants. The 29-year-old woman had sustained a head injury and was transported to Frio Regional Hospital for further medical evaluation.
Following an initial investigation, Pearsall police noted that no criminal charges are pending in the case. Authorities have attributed the crash to either a mechanical failure or driver error.
