Cotulla finished second overall in the team standings as lifters battled for regional positions at the Natalia Powerlifting Meet on Wednesday, February 25 in the final qualifying event of the season.
In four meets this season, the Cowboys who garnered three first place team titles.
“It’s a testament to the standard they’ve built and the work they’ve put in week after week,” CHS Head Coach Kathy Galindo said of the team’s achievements this year. “All season long, our Cowboys have shown discipline and determination for strength by attacking the barbell, overcoming challenges, and representing Cotulla with pride.
“The coaching staff is incredibly proud of the commitment and competitive spirit these young men have demonstrated throughout the season.”
Emiliano Serna and Jorge Martinez both earned gold, winning their respective divisions at the meet.
Serva won at 132 lbs. with a total lift of 900 lbs. He posted lifts of 350 lbs. in the squat, 205 lbs. in the bench press and 345 lbs. in the deadlift.
Martinez hit a total weight of 1,590 lbs. to win the super heavyweight division. His lifts included 615 lbs. in the squat, 480 lbs. in the bench press and 495 lbs. in the deadlift.
Royce Garcia was second at 132 lbs. with a total lift of 825 lbs. while Eduardo Ortega was second in the 181-lb. division with a total weight of 1,365 lbs. Ephraim Lopez was also second in the 198-lb. division with a total lift of 1,355 lbs.
Emmanuel Lopez was third in the 132-lb. division with a total weight of 785 lbs. while Omar Chapa was third at 242 lbs. with a lift of 1,075 lbs.
Johnny Chavera was third in the 181-lb. division with a lift of 1,270 lbs. and Anival Ramon was also third in the super heavyweight division with a lift of 1,135 lbs.
Rey Gonzalez finished fourth at 220 lbs. while Ryan Garcia was fifth in the 181-lb. division.
