EMC Strategy Group CEO Ernie Gonzalez Jr. and son Mitchell presented Pearsall councilors, Parks Director Ramiro Otero and City Manager Federico Reyes with a $200,000 check from the Kate Marmion Charitable Foundation in August to help pay for improvements to Moreno Park on the city’s west side. The city removed the park’s playground equipment last year after an inspection showed that installations were no longer safe for children. According to Otero, the city purchased the park from Dan and Rosa Moreno on February 21, 1962 for $600; prior to the purchase the area was known as Wagoners Well, as it served as the source of the first water supply to travelers passing through the area.
