This too shall pass

SHOWER THOUGHTS WITH SHELLY

It’s OK. Really, I promise, it’s OK. I know they’re talking about you, and that they’re saying all kinds of awful and sensational things about you. Let them gossip as much as they please. The opinions of others often aren’t based on any real knowledge, so much as based on assumptions and theories.

Don’t let it bother you. Don’t lose sleep, don’t worry your pretty little head. Truth is, if they’re using their valuable time to concentrate on you, they clearly need to worry much more about what they’re missing in their own life.

And honestly, they don’t know the whole story. They don’t know what happened behind closed doors. They don’t know how broken your heart is, because you’ve kept those secrets like you’re supposed to. None of them were there while you cried yourself to sleep or as you slid down the wall in tears because you just didn’t know what you were supposed to do now.

While you smiled through the pain, they remained clueless. All the time that you spent lying to keep the peace, they were fooled just like they were meant to be. When you were alone in the middle of the night trying to figure out where you went wrong, they were comfortably asleep.

Of course, they’re confused. You did such a wonderful job of playing your part. And that’s why you need to hold your head up high and face every day with pride. You pushed yourself to the limits, and you tried as hard as you could. There is no shame in finally admitting that enough is enough and that it’s time for a change.

Sure, you’ve made mistakes, and you’ll probably make several more. You’re not perfect. Nobody is. But those of us who matter and care about you don’t expect you to be. More than anything else, we want to see you whole again. Healed from this mess and thriving.

Everybody goes through things, and everyone can come out the other side. Be brave. Be strong. This too shall pass, and the sun will shine again.
