Johnny Martinez held off challenger Danny Cano in the final weeks of the contest to claim the 2023 Frio-Nueces Current Pigskin Poll.
Dilley dropped a 41-0 decision to state-ranked Tidehaven in an area playoff contest on Friday, November 17. The Poll annually runs until all local teams have been eliminated from postseason contention.
Martinez finished with an overall mark of 76-27 to claim a two-game victory over Cano, who had a 74-29 mark. Martinez selected the Little Lady Mavs Reloaded as his charity of choice and will make a charitable donation of all of the players’ contributions to them, a total of $1,000 this year.
Steven Rendon finished third, three-games behind Cano.
Mark Perez and Juanita Rendon tied for fourth at 67-36 while Eddie Rendon and Marcus Hernandez tied for fifth at 66-37.
Manuel Azocar III was eighth at 63-40 while Justin Vela was ninth at 62-41 and Gilbert Barajas finished tenth at 57-46 overall.
