Reyes secures state qualifying lift as Dilley pair move on to THSPA meet.

Chris Medrano repeated as regional champion and will now take aim at capturing his second straight state title following competition at the Region 5, Division 3 powerlifting meet on March 8 in Kingsville.
Dilley will send a pair of athletes to the state competition as Bubba Reyes also hit a state qualifying total weight to also advance.
“These boys have not stopped since last year,” DHS Head Coach Ismael Rocha said. “They have showed up everyday and put in the work that needed to be done in order to get back to state.
“I’m super proud of all the boys for the hard work they have put in this past year. Chris and Bubba are going to Abilene next week to show the state how hard work pays off.”
Medrano won the 132-lb. division with a total lift of 1,270 lbs. His tallied lifts of 510 lbs. in the squat, 320 lbs. in the bench press and 440 lbs. in the deadlift.
Reyes was third at 165 lbs. with a total weight of 1,495 lbs. His lifts included 610 lbs. in the squat, 385 lbs. in the bench press and 500 lbs. in the deadlift.
Miguel Suarez finished fifth overall for Dilley in the 242-lb. weight class with a total weight of 1,420 lbs. He posted lifts of 590 in the squat, 405 in the bench and 425 in the deadlift.
The Texas High School Powerlifting Association State Championships will be in Abilene at the Taylor County Expo Center on Friday, March 22 for Divisions 2 and 3 and Saturday, March 23 for Divisions 1 and 4.
