DINE-IN CAFE hosted by the First Church of Cotulla will be on Friday, September 20, from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at 302 Center St. All are welcome for food, fun and fellowship.

MEETING of the Huajilla Retired Teachers Association will be on Monday, September 23, at the D’Hanis Community Center. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. and the meeting at 10 a.m. A catered lunch will be provided. Attendees should contact their caller to reserve lunch. PEANUT TOUR hosted by the 2024 South Texas Peanut Growers will be on Monday, September 23, at 8:30 a.m. at the Frio County Extension office at 400 S. Pecan St. in Pearsall. Discussions include peanut production in South Texas as well as tours of peanut varieties and peanut herbicide trials. Three Continuing Education Units will be given with a $10 (cash only) fee towards your Texas Department of Agriculture Private Pesticide Applicator License. REPORT CARD NIGHT at Pearsall High School will be Wednesday, September 25 from 5 to 6 p.m. and will commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month. PHS Spanish classes will offer taste testing of traditional dishes from over 21 Hispanic countries. A car show is planned as well as music from Alma’s Del 35, a band composed of high school students.

GRAND OPENING of the Pizza Hut in Pearsall will be on Friday, September 27, at noon at 814 N. Oak Street.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT hosted by the Pearsall Volunteer Fire Department will be on Tuesday, October 1, from 6-8 p.m. at Fireman’s Park.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT hosted by the La Salle County Sheriff’s Office will be at Veterans Park in downtown Cotulla from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 1, with games, food and refreshments, visits from law enforcement and emergency responders and special vehicle demonstrations. Community members are invited to light their porches in blue to show support for local law enforcement and neighborhood watch.

ALL COLORS Cancer Walk, to raise funds for local cancer patients and families, 10 a.m. Saturday, September 28, at Veterans Park in Cotulla. Teams and individual participants include families, clubs, civic and charity groups, government officials, law enforcement and emergency responders, businesses, and student groups, in themed t-shirts. CURSILLO OF LAREDO is summoning all those age 18 and older interested in the Women’s Cursillo program in the Catholic church in La Salle County to enroll for a course October 3 to 6. TRASH-O-RAMA hosted by the city of Cotulla, Saturday morning, October 19, at Plaza Florita, allowing local residents to dispose of bulky waste, appliances, furniture, construction debris, metal, car and light truck tires, in a drive-through process with city crews unloading pickup trucks and trailers. No brush, dead animals or kitchen waste. Service is free; donations of cold drinks for the crew are appreciated. Trash-o-Rama continues until containers are full. City waste collection station on FM 624 also remains open on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
EMERGENCY ALERT siren for the city of Cotulla is is tested at noon on Fridays. City Hall website includes information on types of alert and early-warning system for severe weather and disasters.

COFFEE AND CONVERSATONS hosted by the Pearsall Public Library every Monday from 10 a.m. to noon at 200 E. Trinity Street, including senior activities, arts and crafts, healthy living workshops and guest speakers. For information, call (830) 334-2496.

COVID MEMORIAL project proposed for Fireman’s Park in Pearsall is in development by Reynaldo M. Trevino. He is asking for support to convince Frio County elected officials to agree on building a memorial. Those wishing to participate can call him at (830) 772-5930.

THE PEOPLES’ PANTRY, supplied by the San Antonio Food Bank, is operated by Cotulla ISD at the George Hopkins Cafeteria on Baylor Street, 8 to 11:30 a.m. every second and fourth Saturday of the month, providing a variety of foods, including perishables, to all who need them. COOK BOOK IDEAS are being sought by the Cotulla Garden Club. The group is putting together a cookbook and wants community members to submit their recipes for use in the book. Submit recipes to any Cotulla Garden Club member or email them to [email protected]

GUADALUPE HALL beside Plaza Florita on the east side of Cotulla is being restored and refurbished by the city in a historic preservation effort. Anyone with old photos of the hall and events held there is invited to contribute them or have copies made at City Hall for reference use. Call (830) 879-2367 for information.

MEMBERSHIP in the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Caddel-Smith Chapter Uvalde is open to women with an ancestor who lived in Texas or fought for the Republic of Texas prior to Texas becoming a state.
