Inclement weather in La Salle County on December 7 prevented event organizers from hosting the annual Wild Hog Cook-Off Ranch Rodeo Qualifier, which has been rescheduled for Saturday, January 11.
The event is open to the public and includes a number of competitive rodeo teams invited from South Texas ranches to take part in challenges that will determine who advances to the annual Cotulla Ranch Rodeo, held during the weekend of the Wild Hog Cook-Off in March.
The qualifying rounds include sorting and penning, tying, trailer loading, and the “Holiday Stampede.”
Each team comprises five riders; the entry fee is $100 per man. A negative Coggins test will be required of every horse taking part in the event.
Since the qualifier had originally been intended to coincide with the Cotulla Country Christmas, hosted by the La Salle County Fair Association in the fairgrounds exhibition barn and pavilion, all vendors who took part in the Dec. 7 arts and crafts sale are invited to return with their wares on Jan. 11 for an all-day sale.
The rodeo qualifier at the American Legion Arena on the county fairgrounds off Hwy 97 is set to begin at 2 p.m.; spectator parking is available on Engineer Lane and at the fairgrounds field.
Further information on booth spaces, bookings and other reservations as well as county fair activities is available from the La Salle County Fair Association office at (830) 879-2852.
