An investigation into narcotics trafficking in South Texas has led to the conviction and sentencing of a Cotulla man more than four years after his arrest.
Jesus Roberto Tellez, 42, has been remanded to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for 121 months – a prison sentence of more than ten years – for his part in the transport of fentanyl and methamphetamine from the US-Mexico border to San Antonio.
A report on the case and court documents from the December sentencing indicate Tellez was arrested in October 2021 after collecting a backpack containing narcotics. He was the subject of a traffic stop by police in Eagle Pass and was found in possession of 4.3 kilos of methamphetamine wrapped in nine bundles and nearly 500 grams of fentanyl pills.
The investigation into the narcotics transport was conducted by the DEA and the Eagle Pass PD. The case was prosecuted by Assistant US Attorney Sarah Spears for the Western District of Texas.
