The Frio County Elections Department is letting eligible voters know they will not receive voter registration cards due to a system delay.
According to a document published on the county’s website page, the state of Texas has redeveloped its voter registration system, which has been plagued with implementation issues and delays.
Voters should note that Frio County has completed its voter registration, and contingent on a voter history update, the county can begin the voter registration renewal certificate mass mail-out process.
“The mass mail-out feature in the state’s voter registration system is not functioning,” the notice reads. “The state is working with the vendor to resolve this issue, along with other concerns and delays.”
Eligible voters should have received their voter registration cards late last year.
Frio County voters casting ballots in the upcoming election are eligible to vote with a valid photo identification card.
Approved forms of identification include a Texas election identification certificate, personal identification card, driver’s license, handgun license, a US citizenship certificate with a photo, a military identification card, or a US passport.
Voters who do not have access to one of the approved seven forms of identification may complete a declaration of reasonable impediment.
In order to vote using a reasonable impediment declaration, voters must provide either a certified domestic birth certificate, a current utility bill, a bank statement, a government check, a paycheck, or a government document with name and address.
“Please be assured, as we approach a very busy election year, that our priorities include election integrity,” the department noted.
Further questions should be directed to the elections administrator’s office at (830) 505-7677.
