ALL-STAR WEEKEND
PEARSALL LITTLE LEAGUE
District 21 tournaments kick off in Pearsall Saturday.
Pearsall Little League officials and city of Pearsall Parks and Recreation staff are making final preparations this week to host the District 21 All-Star tournaments at the Victor Trevino Sports Complex and Pearsall High School baseball and softball fields this weekend.
Event organizers are still needing volunteers to help at the event and are asking for supporters to assist with hospitality meals. Officials are looking for local businesses, organizations, churches, families, and individuals willing to provide a hospitality meal for approximately 75 people during the tournament week.
Volunteers and donations are also being sought to help with tournament meals and other expenses.
“No donation or volunteer effort is too small,” League officials said on their Facebook page. “Whether you can provide a meal, donate supplies, volunteer a few hours, or help spread the word, your support is greatly appreciated!”
Pearsall Mayor George Cabasos also touted the league’s achievement of hosting ten all-star tournaments as a major victory for the community.
“Hosting the District 21 tournaments is a win for all of Pearsall,” he said. “Our community will have the distinct honor of hosting the tournament. Bringing an event of this magnitude to Pearsall is a massive milestone for our local youth sports programs, and it is an incredible opportunity to showcase our city to families traveling from across South Texas.
“When we support our Little League, we are directly investing in the future leaders of Pearsall. Our public works and parks employees have been working diligently to get our facilities into championship shape.
They have been out in full force cutting grass, sharpening infield dimensions, and setting up the batting cages. By first pitch on Saturday, June 13, our facility will be shining and ready to deliver a first-class tournament experience.”
Cabasos also noted the economic benefit of the event to Pearsall.
“Hosting this tournament isn’t just a win for the kids on the field, it is a powerful economic engine for our entire city,” he said. “Over the course of this event, hundreds of players, coaches, parents, and grandparents from neighboring towns will be living, eating, and buying right here in Pearsall. They will buy fuel at our gas stations, dine at our local restaurants, shop at our hometown small businesses and some will even stay at our hotels.
“This tournament represents a direct injection of outside revenue into our local economy, proving that when we invest in maintaining and upgrading our public parks, the economic returns benefit everyone.”
The event runs Saturday, June 13 through Tuesday, June 23 and is expected to bring 78 teams and fan bases to Pearsall.
