The La Salle County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation into the causes of a November 28 crash between a northbound Union Pacific freight train and an 18-wheel tanker truck at a grade crossing near Dilley, an incident that resulted in thousands of gallons of crude oil burning.

Emergency responders from the La Salle County Fire Rescue & EMS were dispatched to the scene at the Ledwig Ranch entrance near the Frio County line shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday and were joined by volunteer firefighters from Dilley in battling the blaze that had ensued when the freight train had collided with the truck that had been crossing the tracks from the private ranch road.
