Judge orders community service for jury duty skippers

“The wheels of justice stop” when citizens fail to answer the call, district attorney says

District Judge Russell Wilson offered a choice between eight hours of community service and criminal prosecution for dozens of La Salle County residents on Thursday, November 30, after they skipped jury duty or failed to provide adequate excuses for not serving.

By Thursday afternoon, a total of 41 local citizens had agreed to perform community service between now and mid-January. Hundreds, however, may face contempt charges after they failed to put in court appearances when summoned.
