Councilors table talk on employee raises


Pearsall city councilors took no action on an agenda item to increase hourly employee pay citing budget concerns during a meeting on Tuesday, June 12.

At the request of Mayor Mary Moore, Pearsall City Manager Charles Jackson looked at how employees were compensated and presented councilors with a proposal for an 80-percent increase for hourly employees.

“I looked at discrepancies [in pay],” Jackson said. “The analysis looks at the position, not the people.”

According to the City Manager, a number of employee salaries had been set on a ‘who knew who’ basis; creating a third of employees being paid below market area value.
