Council axes Main Street Program

“Don’t got my support...”

Pearsall city councilors have chosen to not fund the Main Street program two years into a three-year contract leaving the town’s community development in limbo.

In the latter part of 2017, the city was encouraged by a resident to apply for the Main Street Program because “it aligned with the city’s vision and acceptance into the program would be the catalyst that spurred the revitalization efforts.”

In an August 15 memo to Pearsall City Manager Frederico Reyes from Debra Drescher, State Coordinator, Texas Main Street Program, she outlined the roles and responsibilities of the program, “The city of Pearsall applied for Main Street designation in 2017, and upon the successful application, officially became a designated Main Street community January 1, 2018.
