Cotulla CC team competes at McNeil Invitational at Round Rock

CROSS COUNTRY

Cotulla split its cross country team this week, sending runners to compete in Dilley and the McNeil Invitational in Round Rock, one of the largest events of the year.

With the McNeil Invitational boasting over 6,000 runners in numerous divisions from the 7th to 12th grades, Cotulla used the event as an experience builder.

“This will be the course for the state cross country meet,” CHS Head Coach Jose Olvera said. “Aaliyah Charo narrowly missed medaling by only one place.

“This was a much tougher and, to our surprise, a longer course than usual and we commend our runners for stepping up to the challenge.”

Charo was 21st with a time of 15:54 while Raeann Charo finished 63rd at 16:52 and Angie Teneyuca returned to action following a three-week absence due to injury. She timed in at 18:57.

Ceasar Castillon paced the Cowboys in 45th with his personal best time of 19:53, followed by Adam Leal and Carlos Alba. Leal was 70th at 21:04 and Alba finished 110th at 23:33.

“While we would have loved to place, this running experience could not have been duplicated anywhere else,” Olvera said.
