Elizondo graduates from basic training in SC

United States Army Private First Class Tristan Reece Elizondo recently graduated from basic combat training in Fort Jackson, South Carolina.

 

The 2018 Pearsall High School graduate earned highest individual physical training platoon score leader and a sharp shooter badge turning his 10-week training.

DPS presents traffic safety for seniors at BCRSP meeting

The Brush Country Retired School Personnel Association met on October 18 at J.J.’s Country Store for a presentation on ‘Traffic Safety for Seniors’ by Texas Department of Public Safety troopers.

 

Guest speaker was Officer Bradley Bush with the Texas DPS. He was accompanied by Sergeant JD Rodriguez.

CGC meets in Tilden

The Cotulla Garden Club held its regular meeting on Thursday, October 11, at 10:30 a.m. at Max’s Café in Tilden with eight members and two guests in attendance.

 

Roll call was done according to favorite fall fruits.

 

The guest speaker for the event was Ralph Boeker Jr., who spoke on water and environmental issues. It was a very interesting talk and we thank Mr. Boeker.

RODRIGUEZ-MOLINA TO WED

The parents of Lori Anne Rodriguez and Nick Aaron Molina of Dilley are announcing the engagement and upcoming wedding of their daughter and son on October 20, 2018. The bride-to-be is the daughter of Juan L. Rodriguez and Noelia G. Rodriguez of Dilley. The groom-to-be is the son Sophia Molina and the late Juan Molina, also of Dilley. The couple resides in San Antonio and the wedding will be held at the Cornerstone Church in Stone Oak.

WCC Participates In First Books Program

The Woman’s Club of Cotulla recently participated in First Books, a non-profit social enterprise that provides new books to children in need. Fifteen students from Encinal Elementary were presented a book to own by members Louisa Franklin, Stephanie Canales and Novella Byrd on Tuesday, September 18. The following day, 80 students at Ramirez Burks received books from club members Erica Adams, Melanie Ayala, Stephanie Canales and Novella Byrd. The books are purchased or donated by Woman Club members. Founded in 1992, First Book provides new books, learning materials, and other essentials to children in need and, to date, has distributed more than 175 million books and educational resources to programs and schools serving children from low-income families.

Cotulla garden club honors Rymal

Cotulla’s Garden Club honored Mary Alice Rymal with gifts for her years of service as president of the organization during the monthly meeting on September 13.

 

The event was held at the home of Darlene Myers and led by new president Nora Quintanilla with thirteen members present.

 

The club welcomed in two new members, Rosie Tetzlaff and Amy Franklin.

La Salle Elderly Nutrition Center opens with August 31 ceremony

In a move geared towards providing more space to feed the elderly and provide recreational activities, the La Salle County Elderly Nutrition Center opened it’s doors during a ceremony on August 31.

The move to the 637 N. Baylor St. location was made to provide additional space to feed the elderly and provide them with ample room for recreational activities. They now have a place to exercise or read a book in the lounge.

Pearsall First Friday features Mavericks

The city of Pearsall’s Main Street Program is hosting its second First Friday event this week.

This Friday’s event will be held along San Marcos Street as it will be sponsored by Gemini Office Supply and the Frio Dollar Store. The stretch of San Marcos Street between Ash and Oak streets will be closed for the event.
