INDEPENDENCE DAY BABY

Georgina Janelle Vasquez was welcomed home by her mother Robin Carrizales on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 and Frio Regional Hospital staff. The Independence Day baby is welcomed home by maternal grandparents Ruben Sr. and Janie Carrizales.

GONE CAMPING

Members of Mariachi Cotuleno attended the University of Texas Longhorn Mariachi Camp July 5-8 in Austin. Students worked directly with professors by section to improve their instrumental and vocal skills. A concert was held on Sunday at the Butler School of Music where all the students in attendance performed a variety of songs. The Longhorn Mariachi Camp was under the direction of Ezekiel (Zeke) Castro and Assistant Director Monica Fogelquist.

LET FREEDOM RING

Frio County Judge Arnulfo Luna, Frio County Justice of the Peace James Sindon, Attorney Susan Stacy and Attorney Grady Roberts read the Declaration of Independence during an annual ceremony hosted by the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association reading on Wednesday, July 4 in front of Frio County Courthouse. Also in attendance were Pearsall Fire Chief Placido Aguilar, Councilman Ben Briscoe, Dr. Robert Gorhum and other local business owners.

CASA APPRECIATION DINNER

CASA of South hosted an appreciation dinner for all of its volunteers, board members and advisory council members Tuesday evening, June 26 at Mi Casa in Pearsall. Following its meal, all of the Frio County CASA members and volunteers were presented with gifts of appreciation for their volunteer efforts. CASA is always seeking volunteers to assist at-risk children. Anyone interested in helping can call Francie Gasch at (830) 267-1025. The organization also needs help from people who only wish to assist through fundraising activities.

Summer fun and learning at the DPL

The Dilley ISD Drum Line students and Band Director Terri Robertson gave a special presentation to students at the Dilley Public Library during its Summer Reading Program in June. Dilley Chief of Police Jerry Reyna and Patrol officers Michael Martinez and Ramon Garza also taught students about bicycle safety during a “Bike Safety, Bike Smart” video presentation. Library staff extended its thanks to these individuals for their presentations at the convention center for the children of the community.

Pearsall ISD OFSDP GraduatesA

Pearsall ISD trustees presented three students with their Optional-Flexible School Day Program diplomas during a ceremony at the regular meeting of the school board on Wednesday, June 20. Cassandra Martinez (bottom photo), Vanessa Martinez (middle photo) and Riqui Ortega (top photo) received their high school diplomas through the program and lauded its flexibility with works schedules and quiet environment.

A deep heartfelt thanks to you all.

We had a barbecue benefit for my husband, Rusty Garcia on June 2, 2018 for a serious medical condition he was diagnosed with. It was a huge success thanks to God.

It would have not been possible without these wonderful people donating their time and donations, Martin and Febe Ramos, Victor and Sylvia Rodriguez, Andres Reyes and his son Randy Reyes, the Knights of Columbus members and the Pears-all Volunteer Fire Department.

A&M CLUB AWARDS FOUR SCHOLARSHIPS

The LaSalle County A&M Club awarded four scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each during the annual Cotulla High School Awards and Scholarships program on Monday June 4. Recipients included Kathryn Gonzalez, Heather Hernandez, Celissa Pena and Ashley Maldonado. Kathryn is the daughter of Juan and Melissa Gonzalez. She will pursue a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies EC-6. Heather is the daughter of Lupe Hernandez and Elida Silvia and plans to pursue a degree in Chemistry. Celissa is the daughter of Thomas and Annette Pena and will pursue a degree in Aerospace Engineering. Ashley is the daughter of Richard and Marlene Maldonado. All four recipients will be attending Texas A&M University College Station.

TFE Performs with SA Symphony

A select number of second grade students from Pearsall’s Ted Flores Elementary school were chosen to perform with the San Antonio Symphony during a performance at the San Antonio Tobin Center on Friday, May 25.

The event was made possible through the Link Up program.

Link Up is a partnership with the Weill Music Institute of Carnegie Hall and guides music teachers and students in the third through fifth grades through a monthslong exploration of symphonic repertoire supported by extensive, freely-provided curriculum materials and online resources.
