DRT Caddel-Smith Chapter elects new officers

The Caddel-Smith Chapter, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, met on Thursday, April 9 in the McNelly Room at the First State Bank of Uvalde with 19 members and one guest present. The meeting was called to order by President Judy Burleson and the invocation was given by Chaplain Cheryl Ratcliff. Burleson led the pledges to the United States and Texas flags. Second Vice President Jane Van Hoozer read the DRT Objectives. First Vice President Jakelynn Crawford stated that the next DRT meeting will be on Thursday, May 21, the week after the state convention. The program will include installation of new officers. A pot-luck lunch will be held after the meeting. President Burleson announced that the membership application for Amanda Van Hoozer had been approved.

Cotulla Woman’s Club marks Federation Day

Members of the Woman’s Club of Cotulla met with Cotulla Mayor Joe Lozano at City Hall Monday, April 20 as he signed a proclamation declaring April 24 Federation Day of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs. GFWC Federation Day is an annual celebration of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, which was officially formed on April 24, 1890, in New York, NY. On April 24 of each year, GFWC and its members commemorate the historic beginning of the organization; 2015 marks the 125th anniversary of the GFWC and the 92nd anniversary of the Woman’s Club of Cotulla.The General Federation of Women’s Clubs describes itself as a unifying force, bringing together local women’s clubs, with members   dedicated to strengthening their communitie  and enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service.

Huajilla Unit examines 'Degrees of Separation' in historic presentation

President Rosemary Bendele presided over the Huajilla Unit of TRTA monthly meeting and luncheon on held on Monday, March 23 at Neal’s Lodge in Concan, an event that featured a historical examination of the degrees of separation between residents and historic characters. Guest speaker Charles Carlson, former administrator at Hondo High School

Woman’s Club members attend convention

The General Federation of Women’s clubs is a unifying force, bringing together local women’s clubs, with members dedicated to strengthening their communities and enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service.
