Rotary Club honors Sindon as Paul Harris Fellow

SThe Rotary Foundation of Rotary International recently recognized Frio County Attorney and Pearsall attorney at law Joseph Sindon as a Paul Harris Fellow. Sindon received the award during a local Pearsall Rotary Club meeting on Tuesday, April 3. This recognition, for individuals who meet high professional and personal standards set forth by Paul Harris, was given to Mr. Sindon for outstanding contributions as a Rotarian, exemplifying the highest ideal in Rotary of ‘

Service Above Self.’ “This award is a special expression of appreciation by the Pearsall Rotary for his many contributions and work with the club,” Sindon’s father James said during the ceremony.

SHARING KNOWLEDGE

SHARING KNOWLEDGE - The Dilley Public Library was invited to attend the Cluster XII Community Resource Fair on Monday, March 26 at the Pearsall High School Cafeteria to share its information of resources. A variety of vendors with valuable information were in attendance. The event was open to Pearsall, Dilley, Cotulla and surrounding areas.

Pioneer Jail Museum Association Presents

21st annual Frio Pioneer Day

Hundreds of people flocked to the Frio Pioneer Jail Museum in Pearsall on Saturday, March 24, for the 21st annual Frio Pioneer Day. The event annually celebrates history, and offers food, music and entertainment. The event also features several cooking and grilling competitions, offering bragging rights and prizes in the annual Pioneer Day Cook-off, which also includes a dessert and pork chop competition for children. With something for everyone, including great American history teaching moments, a petting zoo and pet parade for the kids, arts and crafts, Cowboy Doug and his rope tricks, and a lively live auction to raise funds for the sponsoring Frio Pioneer Jail Museum Association.

NEWEST VOLUNTEER

CPS South Central Court Judge DeGerolami swore in Deena Tetzlaff as the newest LaSalle CASA Volunteer during a recent ceremony. Pictured with the judge are Deena, CASA Case Supervisor Francie Gasch and CPS personnel. The CASA of South Texas unit presently serves approximately 150 children in five counties, Frio, LaSalle, Atascosa, Wilson and Karnes. CASA Volunteers are appointed to mentor and advocate for foster children who need a voice to speak for them during the period they are in the state’s care. CASA is a nonprofit agency and is always looking for volunteers.

CASA, PD sponge throw set for Saturday at Pioneer Day

In an effort to build trust and establish community cooperation, the Pearsall Police department has joined forces with CASA for the third annual sponge throw on Saturday, March 24.

 

The event will begin first thing in the morning on the Frio County Jail Museum grounds during the 21st annual Frio Pioneer Days.

 

Officers will be on hand for a meet and greet with members of the community as well as participating in a sponge throw, the police chief said.

La Salle County Fair & Wild Hog Cook-Off

Cookers and grillers of all skill levels converged at the 2018 La Salle County Fair and Wild Hog Cook-off, which runs in conjunction with the annual Junior Livestock Show and 31st annual Cotulla Ranch Rodeo on Thursday-Sunday, March 8-11. Annual events included a downtown parade, Pet Parade, Cook-off, Wild Hog Olympics, carnival, rodeo and other activities throughout the weekend. Live music included The Randy Rogers Band and Siggno.

JOINING THE THIN BLUE LINE

Anthony L. Rodriguez, a 2011 Pearsall High School and 2017 graduate of Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi, was recently commissioned as a Texas Peace Officer with the Conroe Police Department at a ceremony in Conroe on February 22. Officer Rodriguez also currently serves in the Texas Army National Guard. He is the son of Arturo Jr. and Nelda Rodriguez of Pearsall.

PJHS STUDENTS DISPLAY ART AT REGION 20

Pearsall Junior High students Kristina Kalthoff, Ryan Martinez, Hailey Medrano, Allison Reyna, Karlina Rodriguez and Andrea Vasquez had their art pieces selected for display at Region 20 in San Antonio in January. Educators from Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Dimmitt, Frio, Guadalupe. Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, Kinney, La Salle, Maverick, Medina, Real, Uvalde, Wilson and Zavala counties were able to observe the art pieces by PJHS’ own students.

SHINE A LITTLE HAPPINESS

Cotulla Garden Club members Annette Shwab and Kay Childers visited the La Salle County Elderly Nutrition Center on Valentines Day, Wednesday, February 14, to distribute carnations to each of the local residents taking their meals at the facility. The Nutrition Center also helped celebrate the day with flowers and gifts to all the program beneficiaries. Center manager Rosie Sauceda is extending thanks to the Garden Club for the presentation and for helping bring color and cheer to the day for the community’s elderly residents.
