“Mutually beneficial for both entities...”

After being ordered to close down the city of Dilley’s citizen collection station in December by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the municipality is set to receive some assistance from the county.

Precinct 4 Commissioner Jose Asuncion brought the condition of the collection station to the court’s attention during a meeting on Wednesday, February 13.

“They were burning garbage and brush together,” Asuncion said. “This particular site is not permitted for that.”

Dilley City Administrator David Jordan provided the court with the timeline of events that led to the closure of the site. On December 20, 2018 the site was closed by TCEQ staff following an anonymous complaint made to the commission.

City to exhaust reserves to pay Tobias

“Absolute carelessness...”

Pearsall Councilors voted unanimously last week not to appeal a District Judge’s decision and pay former City Manager Robert Tobias nearly $200,000.

According to City Manager Charles Jackson, the settlement will exhaust the city’s reserve fund, cut out budgeted road repairs, and a personnel position.

“The city will pay for this two different ways,” Jackson said in a phone interview Tuesday morning. “We will wipe out our reserves and cut stuff out of the monies from the STEC budget.”

Late last year the city entered a PILOT agreement with the South Texas Electric Cooperative in lieu of annexation. The monies, set to arrive in August, are to be used for a number of road projects, hiring of city personnel, and street repair equipment.

Garcia faces attempted capital murder charge following county chase

Article Image Alt Text

A Cotulla man was taken into custody on charges of attempted capital murder following a chase through county roads involving multiple agencies early Wednesday morning, January 30.

Frio County Sheriff’s deputies place Uvaldo Garcia III, 38, into custody following a lengthy chase after Garcia failed to pull over during an attempted law enforcement traffic stop at about 1 a.m. on FM 117 West near Dilley.

According to a FCSO report, Garcia, the alleged driver, refused to stop and a pursuit ensued through several county roads. The report alleges that Garcia fired approximately six shots at the FCSO Cpl. giving chase.

“For a brief moment deputies lost site of vehicle due to lots of dust from the county road,” the officer said in the report. “After awhile the same vehicle was coming out of a ranch, this time with a female driver.”
