Griselda Sambrano

Griselda Ida Sambrano, 74 of Dilley, died on November 8, 2018 in Devine. She was born on June 22, 1944 in Dilley to Willie Ortiz and Juanita M. Ruiz. She is preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Rosa Campos and Hermilia Irma Benavides and great grandson Rodolfo Gonzales III. She is survived by her husband, Jesus H. Sambrano of Dilley; children, Soveida Gonzales and Franky Ayala, Melinda Sambrano and Victor Camarillo Jr., Mandy Ramirez and husband Buddy, Juanita Prado, Lydia Ann Sambrano and John Cantu, Nalberto Sambrano, Denise Diane Sambrano, Jessica Sambrano and Alberto Andrade and Roxan Sambrano and Steven Medrano; brothers and sisters, Alfonso Ortiz, Leonides Ortiz, Gilbert Ortiz, Ramon Ortiz, Raul Ortiz, Roberto Ortiz, Sylvia Jaco, Maria Ortiz and Yolanda Garcia; 23 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation was held on Monday, November 12, at Trevino Royal Oaks Funeral Chapel-Dilley from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Alejandrina Southmayd

Alejandrina Ramirez Southmayd died on Saturday morning, October 27th, 2018 at the age of 88. She is preceded in death by her husband Alden E. Southmayd Jr. and stepson Walter E. Southmayd (surviving wife Marilyn Southmayd of Alice), She is survived by her daughter Maria M. Southmayd; grandsons Alden E. Southmayd Sailler and Marcus B. Southmayd Sailler of San Antonio, stepchildren Barbara Southmayd Fiedler spouse Welton (Rusty) Fiedler of Temple, Alden E. Southmayd spouse Kandi Southmayd of Beeville, Martha Southmayd Wallace of Freer, and Sara Southmayd Ruiz spouse Patricio (Pat) Ruiz, IV of Mason; along with family and friends. She was a devoted Catholic. A memorial service was held on Saturday, November 10, at Peters Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a Rosary at 6 p.m. Internment will follow at a later date. Carolyn Swenson

Carolyn Elizabeth (Carroll) Swenson, 83, of Austin, died on Wednesday, October 24, 2018. She was born on May 5, 1935 to Louis Joseph Carroll and Ruby (Dunn) Carroll. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ruby and Louis Carroll; her in-laws, FG and Carolyne Swenson; two older brothers, Robert and Paul; a niece, Barbara Dolgener; and her granddaughter, Hope. She is survived by her husband of nearly fifty-four years, Zack Swenson of Austin; her daughter and son-in-law, Sharolyn and Duke Browning of Austin; her son, Steven FG Swenson of Austin; her granddaughters, Navy (living and working in Tanzania) and Summer Browning of Austin; her siblings with their spouses: L.J. and Helen Carroll of Pearsall; Rosemary and Milton Tater of Inez; Bill and Fran Carroll of Dilley; and Margaret Ann and Craig Siegfried of Easton, Pennsylvania; and thirteen nieces and nephews and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday, November 1 at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Austin with Rev.

Lucio Aguilar Aranda

Lucio Aguilar Aranda, 81 of Pearsall, died on November 2, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on March 3, 1937 in Derby to Concepcion Aranda and Sabina Aguilar Aranda. He is preceded in death by his son, Lucio Aranda Jr.; parents and brother, Matilde Aranda. He is survived by his wife, Lucia Elizondo Aranda of Pearsall; children, Domingo Aranda of For Pierce, Florida, Rosa Aguilar and Juan, Emilio Aranda, Benito Aranda all of Okeechobee, Florida, Ricardo Aranda and Laura of Crestwood, Kentucky, Mary Aranda and J Ascencion of Jackson, Tenessee and Janie Gonzalez and Tomy of Pearsall;brother, Gregorio Aranda and Oralia of Pearsall; 29 grandchildren; along with numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 8, at Trevino Royal Oaks Funeral Chapels from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 9, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 10 a.m.

Rodolfo Diaz Maldonado, 82 of Pearsall, died on November 3, 2018. He was born on September 22, 1936 in Pearsall to Estanislado Maldonado and Juanita Diaz. Maria C. Carrizales

Maria C. Carrizales, age 86, of Pearsall, died Thursday, October 25, 2018, in San Antonio. She was born in Frio County on May 6, 1932, to Jesus and Leonor (Huerta) Chavira. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Manuel G. Carrizales, Jr. and her son, Manuel Carrizales III. Maria is survived by her son, Enrique Carrizales of Garland; daughters, Gilda Valdez of Pearsall, Edna Carrizales of San Antonio; brother, Jose Chavira of Minneapolis, Minnesota; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Friday, November 9, in the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Maria’s Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 10, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with interment to follow in the Frio County Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Hurley Funeral Home of Pearsall.

Julius Joseph “Chubby” Petrash, of Lytle, died peacefully at Lytle Nursing Home Friday, November 2, 2018, at the age of 94. Julius was born March 7, 1924 in Weimer, Texas to Henry and Annie (Sustr) Petrash Sr. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Ruby “Jean” Petrash (Love); brothers Pete Petrash and wife Louise, Johnny Petrash and wife Mary Frances, Felix Petrash and wife Annie, Henry Petrash Jr. and wife Georgia, and sisters Margaret Bohac and her husband Frank, Irene Klare and her husband Louis, and Anita Frietsch and her husband Werner, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Michael “Mike” Spurlock

Michael Andrew “Mike” Spurlock, age 59, of Dilley, died Tuesday, October 16, 2018, in San Antonio. He was born in Dallas on December 31, 1958, to James and Elizabeth (Leal) Spurlock. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Spurlock and his brother, Bill Spurlock. He is survived by his parents, James and Elizabeth Spurlock of Schertz; sons, William A. Spurlock of San Antonio and Bryan A. Spurlock of Corpus Christi; daughters, Cristi Lynn Flores of San Antonio and Amber Marie Espinoza of Dilley; brother, Jimmy Spurlock of Schertz; sister, Cheryl Spurlock of New Braunfels; his aunt, Josey Leal of Dallas; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Dillard, Breanna Hinojosa, Hayleigh Hinojosa, Aaron Michael Espinoza, Derek Espinoza, Kathryn Espinoza, Efrain Espinoza Jr., Michael Frank Spurlock and Tessa Loralai Spurlock and his great-grandchildren, Ariana Dillard and Jace Dillard. Visitation was held Sunday, October 21, in the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel from 2 to 9 p.m.

Camilla Ruth Birkhead Wallace

Camilla Ruth Birkhead Wallace of Moore, died on November 5, 2018. She was born in Big Spring, on January 23, 1934, to Mr. and Mrs. E.P. Birkhead Sr. of Coahoma, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband James Lawrence Wallace Jr. She is survived by her brother, E.P. Birkhead, Jr. and his wife Reta of Midland; son, Graves Rankin Wallace of Moore; daughter, Christy Wallace Chisum and husband Roy W. Chisum of Jayton, Texas; grandchildren, Colter Gene Mize, Graves Sharber Wallace, Taylor Justin Tate, Ashley Kerr, Caleb Chisum, Kayla Chisum, Randi Chisum and Amber Chisum Brightwell; nephews, James and Weston Birkhead along with many cousins and friends. She was a teacher at Pearsall ISD in the last years of her career that spanned over 47 years. She taught many different ages from 3rd grade up through high school to finally diagnostician in Pearsall for 15 years. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 8, in the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Roberto Ayala

Roberto H. Ayala died on October 30, 2018, at the age of 74. He was born on January 19, 1944 to Enrique and Rosa Ayala. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Josefa A. Sanchez. He is survived by his wife, Dora Ayala; children, Dolores Ayala, Dahlia Ayala, Roberto (Melanie Maree) Ayala Jr. and Luis Antonio (Stacy Ann) Ayala; grandchildren, Dora Nicole Ayala, Roberto Ayala III, Luis Antonio Jr. and Selissa Ann Ayala; siblings, Estella A. (Roberto†) Ruiz, Enrique (Oralia†) Ayala, Elvira A. (Angel) Velasquez, Elida (Luis) Linares, Adan (Sylvia) Ayala, Juanita (Joe) Lozano, Yolanda (Roberto) Sanchez and Raul (Elsa) Ayala; along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was an avid farmer who grew watermelon and raised Brahman cattle. His hobbies included collecting antique coins, arrow heads and building antique wagons.
