Maria Bermea

Maria G. Bermea, of Leander, originally of Charlotte, died on March 19, 2019.

She was born on March 1, 1934 in Hindes, Texas to Alejos Garza and Bitoria Briseno Garza.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ramon M. Bermea; son, Raymond Bermea; parents; grandson, Rudy Leija and numerous brothers.

She is survived by her children, Lorenzo Bermea and wife Mary Ann of Charlotte, Angie Leija and husband Andres of Pearsall, Roy Bermea and wife Lana of Leander, Jo Ann Saenz and husband Robert of Cedar Park; 14 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Thursday, March 21, at Trevino Royal Oaks Funeral Chapels from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a prayer service held at 7 p.m. Funeral service were held on Friday, March 22, at the First Assembly of God Church, 10 a.m. Interment followed at the Chilipitin Cemetery.

Alfredo Velasquez

Alfredo L. Velasquez, died on March 12, 2019 at the age of 59. He was born on August 24, 1959 to Francisco and Belia Velasquez.

He is preceded in death by his father, Francisco R. Velasquez and brother, Andres Velasquez.

He is survived by his wife, Elisa R. Velasquez; mother, Belia L. Velasquez; daughters, Heather Velasquez (Jason Garza), Roxanne Velasquez, Cassandra Velasquez; siblings, Francis Carbajal, Humberto (Esperanza) Velasquez, Francisco Velasquez and Juan Velasquez; 11 grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, March 19, at Peters Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Funeral Services were held at Peters Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 19, at 12 p.m. Interment followed at the Cotulla Southwest Cemetery.

Ruben Mendez

Ruben Mendez, age 37, of Pearsall, died Saturday, March 16, 2019, in San Antonio. He was born in Pearsall on June 17, 1981 to Francisco and Adela (Ramos) Mendez.

Ruben is survived by his daughter, Alejandra Mendez of Pearsall; his parents, Francisco and Adela Mendez of Pearsall; fiancé, Lanita Cabrera of Pearsall; brothers, Gonzalo Mendez and wife, Teresa of Devine, Sergio Mendez and wife, Angelica of Bigfoot, Daniel Mendez of Pearsall; nieces, Mackenzie Meza, Iliana Mendez and Alora Mendez; nephews, Sergio F. Mendez, Isaias Mendez and Josue Mendez; along with several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Ruben earned his education degree from Sul Ross and Texas Tech University. He worked with Pearsall ISD for several years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and played with the church choir. Ruben played music with his brothers.

Raul Del Toro

Raul S. Del Toro, 78, of Dundee, Illinois, died March 15, 2019.

Raul was born October 7, 1940 in Cotulla to Gil and Maria Del Toro.

He was preceded in death by his son, Victor and by his siblings, Anselma, Leonardo, Andrea, Genardo, Hilberto, Celedonia and Apolonia.

He is survived by his wife, Ignacia; his children, Anna (Juan) Ruiz, Elsa (Joe) Martinez and Raul T. Del Toro; seven grandchildren, Angela, Juan Jr., Christopher, Veronica, Victor Jr., Joey and Selina; 18 great- grandchildren; brothers, Benito Del Toro, Rodolfo Del Toro and Rogelio Del Toro; along with many nieces and nephews.

On March 29, 1959 he married Ignacia Torres. Raul was the founder, owner and operator of Del Toro Landscaping and Del Toro TexMex Grill. He bred and raised quarter horses and enjoyed quarter horse racing, he also raised cattle.

Berneice Corbin

Berneice E. Corbin, died March 12, 2019 at the age of 91. She was born March 5, 1928 to the late Louis J. and Ruth A. Shannon.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ira C. Corbin; her son, Gayle Shafer; brothers, Keith Shannon and Virgil Shannon; sisters, Marion Schwartz, Marjorie Biggerstaff and Carol Hanneman.

She is survived by her sister, Ruth Blank and her long time friends who were like her children, Albino Hernandez, Melvin and Doris Chaloupka, Dennis and Joyce Chaloupka, Marcus and Brenda Chaloupka and all of her Texas grandchildren.

She and her husband were long time owners of Corbin’s Fishing Center in Port O’Connor. They retired to the ICC Ranch in Dilley. She recently moved to Victoria to be near her children and grandchildren.

Visitation was held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, with a funeral service at 10 a.m. at Grace Funeral Home. A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Houston.

Victor Camarillo Jr.

Victor Camarillo Jr., 56 of Dilley, died on March 14, 2019 in Devine. He was born on October 16, 1962 to Victor and Olivia Ortiz Camarillo Sr.

He is preceded in death by his father, Victor Camarillo Sr.; brother, Alex Camarillo; mother in law, Griselda Sambrano; sister in laws; Rosa Campos and Millie Benavides.

He survived by his wife, Melinda Sambrano of Dilley; children,Veronica Alvarez (Pedro) of San Antonio, Monica Galvan (Willie Jr.) of San Antonio and Victor Camarillo III of Dilley; mother, Olivia O. Camarillo of San Antonio; sisters, Stella Salazar (Jay), Pearl Jauregui (Jorge), Ruby Camarillo and Blanca Camarillo, all of San Antonio; 6 grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers included, George Jauregui, Roberto Torres, Luis Torres, John E. Cantu, Jose Alberto Ramirez and Franky Ayala.

Shirley Sims

Shirley Ricks Sims, 87, died at home on March 11, 2019 surrounded by her family, after a long history with Parkinson’s Disease.

She was born on May 22, 1931 in Dilley, to Louie A. Ricks and Agnes Zinsmeyer Ricks. Shirley had been a longtime resident of Huffman, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Sims, Jr., siblings Leora Brooks, Irene Schoch, Louie Ricks, Willie Mae Ricks, and Bill Ricks.

She is survived by her children, Sheree Baciarelli and husband Val, Lindy Sims, Karl Sims, Mark Sims and wife Anne Marie, and Suzi Castro and husband Raul; grandchildren Justin Sims and wife Jamie, Ryan Sims and wife Jackie, Stefanie Guinn and husband Mason, Gabrielle Meeuwsen and husband Kyle; great grandchildren Max and Genevieve Sims; and sisters-in-law Linda Ricks and JoAnn Batot.

Alexander Segovia

Alexander Segovia age 53 of San Antonio, Texas died Friday, March 8, 2019 in San Antonio.

Alexander is preceded in death by his mother, Zuleyma Segovia.

He is survived by his father, Juan Perez; son, Matthew Segovia; daughters, Kassandra Segovia, Alexandria Segovia, Luna Segovia; grandchildren, Lorena M. Galvan, Mason Aguilar, and Jamison Alexander Brennan.

Visitation was held on Monday, March 11, 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. with Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel services will conclude at Funeral Home.

Buck Ramsey

Buck Marshall Ramsey died on February 22, 2019 in Bogalusa, Louisiana from cancer.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Martha N. and Lt.Co (ret) H. B. Ramsey.

He is survived by his wife Ziggy (Katherine), brother Bill, nephew Elias Buck Ramsey.

He graduated from Watson High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado and attended the Air Force Academy for two years. After returning back to his family in Cotulla, he attended Sul Ross and Texas A & I University. He later relocated to Boise, Idaho where he began his career in music as a drummer and later produced several CD’s of country music. While in Boise he formed a band known as “Idaho’s Famous Potatoes,” country music with “a peel.” His sense of humor never failed him. He retired with his wife Ziggy in Spicewood, Texas where they resided for over 20 years. When he was diagnosed with terminal cancer he and Ziggy moved to Bogalusa, Louisiana to live out the rest of his days.

Ramon Martinez

Ramon Martinez, 58 of Dilley, died on March 7, 2019 in Pearsall. He was born on September 23, 1960 in Pearsall to Julian V. Martinez and Leonarda Varela Martinez.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Ercilia Martinez and father.

He is survived by his children, Ramon Martinez Jr., Adan Julian Martinez and Kristie Gonzalez, Ashley Ryan Nicole Martinez and Victor Carreon, Joshua Raul Martinez Sr., Brianna Starr Martinez and Jose Gonzalez, William Ray Martinez all of Dilley; mother, Leonarda V. Martinez of Dilley; brothers and sisters, Richie Martinez and Susan, Indy Garcia and Mike, Elena Castor and Albert, Julian Martinez and Maria, Lisa Rodriguez and Orlando all of Dilley; grandchildren, Nisa, Nayla, Tristan, Kashlyn, Kristopher, Joshua Jr., Zaydn and Cilia; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
