DISTRICT 29-4A SOFTBALL

With four consecutive routs, Pearsall completed a sweep of the first round of District 29-4A softball action, posting a 4-0 mark to remain atop the standings last week.

After knocking of Carrizo Springs and Crystal City to open 2-0, Pearsall crushed Devine 21-3 last Tuesday and rallied to stop Hondo 20-10 Friday evening.

In the rout of Devine, Pearsall Head Coach Rey Ramirez lauded his girls for their effort.

Natalia nips Lady Wolves in district showdown

DISTRICT 30-3A SOFTBALL

Dilley dropped a heartbreaking loss to Natalia in district softball action last week, losing a 4-3 decision in the seventh inning. The loss leaves the Lady Wolves third in the standings at 1-2 behind the stateranked Lady Mustangs and Squaws. Dilley's loss to Natalia was especially difficult because the game was tied 3-3 in the seventh inning with a sacrifice flyball scored a run for the Lady Mustangs, bringing in the winning run. Natalia went up 1-0 in the second but Dilley tied the game 1-1 in the third.

Lady Mavs open league play 2-0

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

Pearsall improved to 2-0 in league play last week following a 15-0 rout of Crystal City on March 19.

The Lady Mavs build a 9-0 lead after two innings of play and put the game away in the fourth with four more runs.

Aracely Ortiz and Olivia Garza both notched time on the mound as Ortiz went two innings, allowing only two hits, no runs and struck out six. Garza went two innings, allowing one hit, one walk and striking out two.

Dilley tennis competes at Jourdanton

HIGH SCHOOL GOLF

Dilley's tennis squads were in action at the Jourdanton Tournament on Thursday, March 7 and Friday, March 8 with athletes competing in singles, doubles and mixed doubles play.

The boys and mixed doubles teams took the court on Thursday, while the girls competed on Friday.

Seniors mixed doubles Jose Ciprian and Alexis Martinez were mixed doubles consolation champions, winning three of four matches.

2019 WARHORSE RELAYS

In action for the first time in two weeks, Pearsall's Mavs and Lady Mavs showed a little rust in placing seventh and sixth overall at the Warhorse/Arabian Relays in Devine on Saturday, March 23

The host Warhorses and Arabians won the event as both took the top spots in their respective divisions.

Devine tallied 156 points in the girls' division while Pearsall was sixth with 58 points.

Lady Wolves nab title, Wolves second at Dilley meet

2019 WOLF PACK RELAYS

Dilley bounced back from its early struggles to post first and second place finishes at the Wolf Pack Relays on March 7 at Gosch Field.

The Lady Wolves stormed the field and posted 160 points to finish well ahead of second place Sabinal while the Wolves came in just behind Natalia in second.

The Lady Wolves were paced by their distance runners and relay teams as athletes swept the top three spots in the 800m run and mile run and also earned the top two spot in the two mile run.

THSWPA STATE MEET

Making the most of a return trip to state competition, Pearsall's Alyssa Alva captured gold with a first place finish in her weight class at the Texas High School Women's Powerlifting Association state meet in Waco on Saturday, March 16.

Despite having only two participants at the meet, Pearsall's Alva and Alamar Garcia led the Lady Mavs to a fifth place finish as a team in a field of over 80 teams.

Cowgirls third at Wild Hog Relays

Cotulla played host to the inaugural Wild Hog Relays on Thursday, March 7 and the Cowgirls finished third overall at the event.

Giselle Castaneda was second overall in the long jump and 200m dash and also took first in the 100m. Aaliyah Charo was dominant in the distance events once again as she took gold in the 3,200m and 1,600m runs.

Cristine Cruz was tops in the triple and long jump events and was also second in the 100m dash.

After logging in consecutive weeks of tournament play, Pearsall returned home for two of three non-district games, falling to Jourdanton in a shootout before topping Bandera and Cotulla in softball action.

On the road at Jourdanton, the Lady Mavs dropped a 14-13 decision despite outhitting the Squaws 22-13 for the night.

Jourdanton rallied in the sixth with seven runs to overcome a 13-7 deficit at the top of the sixth.

In a back-and-forth affair, Pearsall took a 3-0 lead in the first but the Squaws cut it to 3-2 in the second.

2019 DAETWYLER RELAYS

Randolph edged Pearsall by 34 points to claim the team title at the Daetwyler Relays in Jourdanton on Friday, March 8.

The Lady Ro-Hawks tallied 134 points while Pearsall finished second with 104 points.

Kiana Kebbi paced the Lady Mavs track team as she took first in two events and helped the sprint relay team finish second.
