La Pryor outlasts Cotulla in overtime

Cotulla went toe-to-toe with Class 2A, state-ranked La Pryor in their 2018 football season-opener, losing a narrow 28-21 decision in overtime last Friday, August 31.

Although the effort was there for the Cowboys, new Athletic Director and Head Football Coach David Silva said that penalties and turnovers played a big part in the narrow loss.

Lady Mavs nab title at Crystal City, Robles dominates for Mavs

Pearsall’s cross country teams continued their torrid pace this season in action at the annual Ricardo Gallegos Invitational Cross Country Meet in Crystal City on Saturday, September 1.

Led by a freshman this week, Pearsall’s Lady Mavs won the girls’ division while Devin Robles, once again, dominated, taking first place for the Mavericks.

Robles wins annual Maverick Invitational, Lady Mavs second

Devin Robles won his division while the Lady Mavs were second overall at the annual Maverick Cross Country Invitation on Saturday, August 25 in Pearsall.

Ten local and area teams were in attendance for the event which saw Lytle edge Crystal City for the boys’ team title while Pleasanton topped Pearsall in the girls’ division.

WARM UP THE LIGHTS

Teams kick off 2018 regular season this Friday.

With their final scrimmages of the year under their belts local football teams will kick off the 2018 football season this Friday with the non-district portion of their schedules.

Pearsall will open the season at home as they play host to the Burbank Bulldogs at Mack Laxson Field.

Robles takes gold, Lady Mavs third at Laredo

Robles wins first annual Border Olympic Cross Country Invitational 4A title.

Pearsall's Devin Robles led from start to finish as was crowned the boy's champion while the Lady Mavs were third overall at the inaugural Border Olympics Cross Country Invitational in Laredo on Saturday, August 18.

Peaks and valleys of pre-season on display in football scrimmages

Teams unofficially kicked off the 2018 football season with scrimmages last week in the first action of the season.

Pearsall traveled to Alamo Stadium in San Antonio to take on a Sam Houston team that was 6-5 bi-district finalists last season in Class 5A, Division I.

Cowgirls claim Silver Bracket title at Laredo

Cotulla kicked off its volleyball season with a solid performance at the Marissa Keene Volleyball Tournament in Laredo over the weekend as the team claimed the Silver Bracket Championship at the event.

The team went 4-1 in tournament play, losing early in the event to fall to the Silver Bracket. The team bounced back, however, reeling off four consecutive victories to claim the bracket championship.

Local squads hit the field for scrimmages Friday

Football teams will see their first action of the season this week as they prep for their initial scrimmages of the 2018 year.

Pearsall opens the year at San Antonio's famed Alamo Stadium against the Sam Houston Hurricanes. Freshman and junior varsity will take the field at 5 p.m. and the varsity Mavericks are slated to begin at 6 p.m.

Ahead of the game...

Pearsall seventh, eighth and ninth graders turned out in large numbers for the annual Maverick Football Camp at Mack Laxson Field on Monday, July 30. New PISD Athletic Director and Head Football Coach  Joseph Rivera and members of his staff provided instruction and ran campers through a variety of offensive and defensive drills.

Pearsall youth of all ages came out in big numbers for the annual Pearsall Cheer Camp hosted by the PHS Varsity Cheerleaders on Tuesday, July 31. The three-day event included instruction on dances, cheers and stunts.
