BACK-TO-BACK: Cowgirls win district crown

Cotulla claimed an insurmountable two-game district lead to lay claim to the 2015 District 30-3A title and earn its second straight league title. The Cowgirls topped rival Dilley in three games on September 29 and then also knocked off Freer in three to secure the title.

Wolves crush Javelinas, snap three-game skid

Hidden yardage can win or lose you games, especially when it comes on special teams. Dilley picked up 180 hidden yards in rolling to a surprisingly lopsided 42-29 win over previously unbeaten Crystal City on Homecoming night.

Pearsall passed its toughest test of the season last Friday night, outlasting a game Jourdanton Indian squad for a 21-14 decision and remained unbeaten at 6-0. The decision guaranteed the Mavericks a winning season, their first since 2009's area qualifying squad went 9-1.

Cotulla continues win streak, now 4-0 in district

After sweeping through the district field unscathed through the first round of play, Cotulla kept its perfect record intact with a three-set victory over Hebbronville on Tuesday, September 22 to open the second round of play. The Cowgirls improved to 4-0 this year with the win and 23-4 overall. The team easily dipatched of the Lady Longhorns by scores of 25-11, 25-7 and 25-10. "The girls are playing really good and playing great defense," CHS Volleyball Coach Fran Adami said.

BRAGGIN’ RIGHTS

Although keyed on all night, Pearsall's Adrian Leal still cracked the century mark for a fourth straight week while the defense pitched its first shutout of the season as the Mavericks topped neighboring Dilley 27-0 in the 2015 edition of the Frio River Rivalry on Friday, September 25 at Mack Laxson Field. In a series that lay dormant since 1977 and was resurrected last season, Pearsall has now won five in a row over their IH-35 neighbors to the south.

Cowboys crush Yellowjackets 46-0 for first win

Cotulla was dominant in recording its first win of the season, crushing Sabinal 46-0 behind an offense that totalled over 400 yards and a defense that limited the Yellowjackets to less than 100 yards and six first downs. Raul Garcia rushed for 148 yards and two touchdowns while Senovio Perales added 85 yards and two scores as the two keyed a ground attack that finished with 407 yards

Pearsall came out hot and cooled down in the second half but still had more than enough to hold off Lytle and claim a 30-16 win last Friday to move to 3-0 for the year. The team is off to its best start since 2009, when the team went 9-1 and won the 29-3A title.

Javelinas hand Cowboys second straight loss, 34-12

Crystal City's defense stymied the Cotulla offense and wore down the Cowboys to claim a 34-12 decision in non-district football action last Friday at Javelinas Stadium. The Cowboys were limited to 161 yards of offense and five first downs while Crystal City accounted for 345 yards of offense, the bulk of it coming via the ground game.
