Light the way...

Local law enforcement and correctional officers were joined by members of the Pearsall High School cross country team, in carrying the torch during the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run, benefiting Special 
Olympics on Wednesday, May 20. The event began in Cotulla, went through Dilley and through downtown Pearsall, finishing with a luncheon at the Frio Regional Park. The Law Enforcement Torch Run for
Special Olympics raises awareness and funds for the Special Olympics movement.

Nine Lady Mavs named to 30-4A softball team

With the fourth and final district 30-4A representative having been eliminated from the playoffs, members of the alldistrict softball squad were recently announced. Jourdanton, the runner-up team in 30-4A, lost an 8-5 decision to Needville in the regional semifinals.

CAPITAL EFFORT

Dilley's James Rodriguez capped a ecorated high school track career with a state runner-up finish in the 800m run at the UIL's State Track and Field Championships on Saturday, May 16. Rodriguez was dominant this year, earning district, area and regional titles in the 800m and mile runs enroute to the state meet. He entered the state meet with the fourth best time in the 800 and finished second with a time of 1:59.64. Elvis Reyes of Wallis Brazos won the event with a time of 1:58.43. Rodriguez also took eighth the mile run, coming in with a time of 4:47.71.

Odem sweeps Dilley in bi-district

Dilley suffered a two-game sweep at the hands of the Odem Lady Owls in bi-district softball action last week in Pearsall and Sinton. Odem closed out the Lady Wolves with big scoring innings 
late in a 21-3 game one win and early in a 13-1 decision in game two.

Lady Wolves face Odem in bi-district series

Dilley dropped a 6-1 decision to unbeaten Freer in the league f inale last week but wrapped up the third place spot in District 30-3A and clinc hed a berth in the postseason. The Lady Wolves closed out the regular season with Senior Night and Strike Out Cancer Night as the team raised funds and donated the money to the Dilley Relay for Life team. Cancer survivor and Dilley Elementary student Cameran Hernandez threw out the first pitch.
