Juan “Johnny” Gonzales Hernandez, 78, of Pearsall, died on Friday October 15, 2021 at his home. He was born in Pearsall to Selverio Hernandez and Lusia Gonzales Hernandez.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 61 years Maria Hernandez, daughter Juanita Hernandez, brother Selverio Hernandez Sr. (Kico), granddaughter Samantha Jade Morales and daughter-in-law Gracie Hernandez.
Johnny is survived by his children Dora and husband Larry Hanks of Kingwood, Molly and husband Frank Marquez of Brookeland Texas, Johnny Hernandez Jr. of Pearsall, Ann Marie and husband Peter Martinez of San Antonio, Jerry and wife Raquel Hernandez of Pearsall, Melissa and Tommy Pawlik of Campwood, sister Dora Leal, brother Walter and wife Yolanda Hernandez, 18 grandchildren, 28 great-children, a great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was an older generation cowboy who enjoyed anything that had to do with roping and he was very skilled at it. He often spoke of stories from his cowboy life.
Visitation was held Thursday October 21 from 2 to 9 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. at the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated Friday, October 22 at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with interment to follow in the Pearsall Cemetery.
