A local staple for 80 years, pool has “reached a critical point in its lifespan”

The city of Pearsall and the Pearsall Independent School District have jointly announced that the local community public swimming pool will remain closed for the 2026 summer season following a structural assessment that revealed extensive damage.
According to officials, the nearly 80-year-old facility has reached a critical point in its operational lifespan.
A recent engineering and structural evaluation identified severe aging components, including a significant water leak.
The cost of required remediation and infrastructure repairs reportedly exceeds the total cost of a full pool replacement.
“After careful evaluation and ongoing discussions, the city of Pearsall and the Pearsall Independent School District jointly announce that the community pool will not open for the 2026 season,” a press release from last week stated. “The safety and well-being of our residents, especially our children and families, remains the top priority for both entities. While this decision was not made lightly, it was made with the community’s best interest in mind.”
Historically, operational upkeep and maintenance for the public pool facility have been funded through the two entities and user fees.
Local officials have not yet announced whether a full capital replacement project will be budgeted or if alternative grant funding will be pursued to build a new aquatic facility.
Meanwhile, those looking to cool off this summer can use splash pads located at the Victor Trevino Sports Complex and the Polo Patino Park.
Additionally, Dilley’s public swimming pool has also yet to open to the public. It is tentatively slated to open in June. Cotulla’s Martinez Park indoor pool is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
