La Salle County Sheriff Anthony Zertuche pinned a deputy’s badge on the newest law enforcement officer in his agency on Friday, September 2, welcoming Adrian Ruiz to the force. Deputy Ruiz is a native of Uvalde and a 2019 graduate of the Southwest Texas Junior College Law Enforcement Academy in that city. Before joining the La Salle County Sheriff’s Office he served as an investigator for the Dilley Police Department and as a sheriff’s deputy in Edwards County. His specialized training includes criminal investigation and he is certified as a field training officer for new recruits. Earlier this year, he helped coordinate support services after the Uvalde school shooting as part of Operation Coyote Overwatch. He has now begun full-time patrol duties in La Salle County on day and night shifts and says he looks forward to serving the community in a greater capacity and becoming acquainted with the people of La Salle County.
