A paving project in Pearsall has been completed this week, nearly a month after city crews began the demolition phase on a quarter-mile stretch of a residential street.
Pearsall city councilors held a meeting on Tuesday, October 18, to approve a contract with KJ Oilfield Services, LLC for the completion of the road project.
“This is project three on our project plan,” City Manager Federico Reyes said during the special-called meeting last week. “Mr. Montes did the asphalt on San Antonio Street by the dollar store. I think it turned out pretty good.”
According to Reyes, remaining monies left from a 2016 bond sale will fund the four-block project that stretches along Willow from Colorado to Frio Streets.
Public Works Director Hector Gandara told councilors that city workers would have to do some minor work on the road before the construction company could begin.
“The city will have to do some prep work because of traffic,” Gandara said. “Tomorrow we will do a once over, then come in with the sealer.”
“Completion is four days from the start of the project,” Reyes said. “We are going to hold Mr. Montes’ feet to the fire.”
Jose Montes, owner of KJ Oilfield Services, LLC said he anticipated a Monday completion date contingent on the city completing its part and weather conditions.
Montes’ company finished the road Tuesday afternoon.
