Students from middle and high schools across South Texas gathered in Lytle on Saturday, December 5, to audition for places on the Association of Texas Small School Bands Region 11 Concert and Symphonic Bands, with some being ranked high enough to earn places at Area.
The auditions involved students performing rehearsed pieces for judges, and those being awarded places on the ATSSB All Region Bands will travel to Pleasanton on Friday and Saturday this week to rehearse for a public concert.
Those advancing to the Area level will meet again January 7 in Alice to audition for advancement to the State Band, which performs a concert in the spring semester.
Band students from Pearsall, Dilley and Cotulla have earned seats on the ATSSB Region Band, and a select few have been awarded seats at the Area auditions.
Students from Pearsall taking seats on the ATSSB Region Symphonic Band next weekend will include Julie Hernandez, 8th chair flute; Joey Segura, 4th chair alto saxophone; Matthew Frazier, 2nd chair trumpet; Phoebe Lopez, 10th chair trumpet; James Garza, 3rd chair French horn; Calistro Garza, 4th chair French horn; Nicholas Camarillo, 5th chair French horn; Brianna Guerra, 3rd chair trombone; and Jackson Beever, 3rd chair tuba.
Pearsall students performing with the Region 11 Concert Band will include Sophia Garza, 1st chair flute; Diamond Morquecho, 3rd chair flute; Lilyana Garcia, 5th chair flute; Lily Telles, 10th chair flute; Christa Garcia, 7th chair clarinet; Aracely Ruiz, 4th chair alto saxophone; Inda Corona, 5th chair alto saxophone; Julian Lopez, 1st chair baritone saxophone; Steven Herrera, 1st chair trumpet; Davian Santos, 9th chair trumpet; Kyle Anizan, 1st chair trombone; Ryan Del Real, 5th chair trombone; and Erick Aguilar, 2nd chair tuba.
Alternates to the Region Band from Pearsall include Shaniah Martinez on flute and Johnavin Gomez on tuba.

Advancing to the Area auditions in January from Dilley are Klaudya Garcia, Audrianna Rodriguez, Alexis Valdez, Daniel Kelley, Billy Hernandez, and Dhylan Moreno.
Cotulla band students performing with the Region 11 Concert Band next weekend will include Alejandro Coronado, 6th chair alto saxophone; Elijah Rios, 4th chair trumpet; and Charles Mann, 4th chair euphonium.
Alternates to the Region Band from Cotulla include Jaden Linares and Matthew Moreno, both on French horn.
Saturday evening’s concert in Pleasanton will be open to the public. Students in the Region Bands will rehearse with their clinicians Friday, Dec. 9, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and Saturday, Dec. 10, from 9 a.m. onwards. The concert auditorium at Pleasanton High School will open at 2:30 p.m.; performances are slated to run from 3:30 p.m. onwards, beginning with the ATSSB Jazz Ensemble, followed by the Concert and Symphonic Bands.
All students in the Region bands are expected to arrive at Pleasanton High School at or before 8:30 a.m. both days.
