Former La Salle County Deputy Glenn Harlow took the oath of office Monday, June 12, as a commissioned peace officer serving as reserve deputy to assist Precinct 4 Constable Guy Megliorino in law enforcement over a coverage area in the eastern portion of the county. Constable Megliorino had approached county commissioners earlier in the day to ask permission to take on a reserve officer to handle a large volume of traffic-related cases during a period of increased activity on state and county roads between Cotulla, Los Angeles and Fowlerton. The constable reported that freight truck and oilfield vehicles have greatly increased in number along the remote stretches of rural two-lane roads and that traffic violations have likewise increased, day and night, notably at or near construction zones where lanes are constricted or limited by traffic signals to single-lane travel. Commissioners concurred that additional law enforcement coverage is needed in the rural territory. (Courtesy photo)
