Pearsall to run at District 29-4A meet on October 11 in Uvalde.
Pearsall finished 12th overall in action at the Poth Cross Country Invitational, the final event prior to district competition, in action on Saturday, September 30.
“This past weekend was a great challenge for us before heading into district with the amount of great competition we faced from the Poth meet,” PHS Head Coach Ricky Medrano said. “On our varsity boys’ side, we have most of our boys having their best races of the season the past two meets. We’ve seen breakout performances in senior CJ Garza, sophomore Jose Ortegon, sophomore Ayden Rodriguez and sophomore Derek Rodriguez.
“They’ve done a great job on going out there and competing and stepping up for the team.”
Throughout the year, the coach said the team has had the chance to compete against its district foes and knows what lies ahead.
“Heading into district, we’ve raced against all our district opponents so far and know what our task is,” he said. “Our goal is to aim for top three as a team and earn a spot at the regional meet.
“We will look to have some big performances from our experienced runners of Romeo Vega, CJ Garza and Dylan Ortiz.”
Angelyna Montes had another solid outing for the Lady Mavs as she earned a top 15 spot in the girls’ division.
“Angelyna Montes continues to have an outstanding season as she secured another medal at the Poth meet,” Medrano said. “This season we have been really cautious from a team standpoint, in trying to get our girls healthy and back going again.
“We will have our full team back at the district meet ready to go and compete. At this time of the season, we want our runners to start to feel fresh, like they are in their best physical shape and have their confidence at a high heading into our district meet.”
